Does anyone know if the Nascar Harlequin books are still being published?
I haven’t seen them anywhere around here but I started writing one a couple of years ago and now I’m finsihed with it and I want to try to get it published in that series if possible but does it still exist?
Yes, they’re still being published. You can see titles here: http://www.eharlequin.com/store.html?cid=600

The plot for my novel is this: Jasper Erickson is a closeted gay husky-lynx anthro in NASCAR, and not quite a “real man” at heart from the perspectives of the other drivers. When promoted to the premiere series, he finds romance in rookie driver Brandon Reese, a fox who is pretty much everything Jasper wishes he was. But, how long can this romance go on until the press, let alone the other drivers, find out?
Your title should come directly out of your story, without revealing it. Take a single striking characteristic or element from your story and use it, or indicate an overall theme, though in using it for a title, use it vaguely enough so as to draw interest without telling the story on the cover of your novel.
Keep in mind what it is that piques the interest of a potential reader; it is, in order, the title, the cover art and the liner notes. Liner notes sometimes include a vague synopsis, and at other times only include reviews from recognized publications or authors in the same genre. Your title will go a long way to catching a reader’s eye, but it is only part of the equation.
Titles that are too wordy don’t look good in print. Keep it short.
Cover art that is too ‘busy’ appears visually erratic and makes a book appear to be possibly erratic in content. Keep it simple but eye-catching.
Chose the title yourself. Really. You know the story and what it’s about. You have intimate knowledge of the content. Only your title will convey what needs to be conveyed before the volume is opened. You can do it.
Last hint: Don’t title the work until it is complete. If you write the title before you’ve finished the work, the tendency will then be to write for the title, rather than letting the title come from the work.
Put the cart before the horse, and you increase the odds of having your @ss bitten.

With Days of Thunder, director Tony Scott tried to do for the Indy 500 what he did for the U.S. Air Force with Top Gun. But without Top Gun’s go-go soundtrack and visual feats, Scott merely ends up with a Tom Cruise vehicle that’s out of gas. Cruise plays (what else?) a cocky, upstart stock-car racer who faces down ruthless racing opponents. Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Cary Elwes, and Randy Qu…

That’s A Hyperbolic Understatement If I Ever Heard One
There are at least sixty different types of rhetorical devices in English literature. The English language is an odd mixture of truth and symbolism and most often exhibits this propensity in the form of various figures of speech. Of all the types of symbolic or rhetorical devices used, hyperbole is the most common. The use of hyperbole may remind you of William Shatner and his propensity to overact.
Worsley Online School asked visitors to come up with examples of hyperbole. Here are a few of the best examples from school-aged children. (Source: www.worsleyschool.net)
“My sister uses so much makeup when she smiles her cheeks fall off.” Ed
“My Teacher’s so old she’s mentioned in the Old Testament.” Kaysie
“My dog is so ugly the fire hydrants disguise themselves!” Cara
“My city is so isolated it takes three days just to get to the grocery store!” Ashley
“Your sister is so dumb, she walked by the YMCA and thought they spelled MACY’S wrong” Alicia
“My history teacher’s so old, he lived through everything we’ve learned about ancient Greece” Ryan
“Saskatchewan is so flat, you can see your dog run away for 4 days!” Jenna
“It was so cold, even the polar bears were wearing jackets.” Elizabeth
The opposite demonstration of this rhetorical device is called ‘Understatement’.
This method draws the reader in by providing a statement that does not seem to fully appreciate the impact of event or situation.
Situation: The temperature outside is 10 below zero.
Hyperbole: It is so cold outside your words freeze. No one can hear you until the spring thaw..
Understatement: It might get a little cool today.
Situation: A chef prepares a wonderful dinner.
Hyperbole: The food was so good it got time off for behavior.
Understatement: The food was tolerable.
Situation: Viewing a NASCAR race.
Hyperbole: The car was so fast I heard a sonic boom.
Understatement: The cars drove at a fair clip.
Authors use hyperbole and understatement in both fiction and non-fiction writing, however it is safe to say that the use of hyperbole is much more widely used. Hyperbole is often used excessively and may not be as clever for the reader as we imagined when we devised the hyperbolic line.
As with almost everything in life the use of hyperbole and understatement are best used in moderation. The use of hyperbole may help define a character in a storyline but there is a significant amount of hyperbole that has been relegated to colloquialism and often becomes cliché to the reader.
